InSight

InSight, Yale’s Chapter of the National Asian Pacific Women’s Forum is a network of empowered and dynamic women who seek to stimulate discussion and research about issues specific to Asian American women. It is a nonprofit undergraduate organization but, more importantly, it is a sisterhood of friends seeking to educate one another and share that nexus of information with others through organization, awareness, and advocacy. We aim to voice important matters that many others do not normally hear. Ultimately, we hope the end result is a stronger voice for historically underrepresented Asian American women in society.Contact lily.wang@yale.edu or anjali.jotwani@yale.edu for more information.

Undergraduate Women in Science at Yale

Undergraduate Women in Science at Yale (UWISAY) was founded in 2009 as a sister of the graduate organization which established the original WISAY mentoring program. UWISAY is dedicated to encouraging a spirit of community and solidarity for women interested in science. In addition to organizing two mentoring programs, UWISAY has hosted biweekly residential college dinners with various female professors in the sciences.  More recently, UWISAY hosted Cocktail Chemistry during Bulldog Days 2010 and 2011. In the community, UWISAY volunteers with Girls' Science Investigations (GSI) leading monthly sessions with middle school students in the New Haven area.  As an organization, we aim to provide a common point of entry for all female undergrads interested in the sciences. This year, for the first time ever, UWISAY plans to host a one-day conference for high school students, and undergraduate and graduate students at Yale. WYSE

WYSE is a mentorship program that provides young women from 12 to 14 with decision-making skills. College-age mentors conduct weekly group sessions on a variety of topics affecting young women, and provide one on one mentorship outside of the sessions. The young women are encouraged to share their opinions, ideas and knowledge, and to take control of their own lives and their environment.

Our Primary Goals:

To promote self-confidence and self-identity
To provide a community of peer support and friendship
To make young women aware of current issues affecting them, including discrimination, violence, and sex and health education
To provide resources and information that will enable young women to make the best choices regarding their educational and professional futures.
To engage young women in community education and activitism.

PRISM

Prism is a discussion and support group for gay, lesbian, and bisexual people of color.

LGBTQ Co-op

The LGBTQ Student Cooperative at Yale works to foster a sense of community among all LGBTQ identified people at Yale. We serve as a media and administrative representative of the LGBTQ community. We serve a social function, working to provide safe spaces and meeting opportunities for queer students. We serve a political function, fighting to change policies and beliefs, at Yale and elsewhere, that are damaging to queer people. Because we believe that all systems of oppression are interlocking, we understand ourselves as a part of greater social justice movements.  The LGBTQ Co-op is an umbrella organization for queer-related social, cultural, political, and religious campus groups.

Manifesta

Manifesta is an undergraduate publication dedicated to the understanding of feminist issues and the wide range of content affecting women at Yale and worldwide. Contact isaac.bloch@yale.edu

Fierce Advocates

Fierce Advocates: is a community service and advocacy organization with an LGBTQ twist. We organize a fall conference and spring prom for LGBTQ and allied high school students in the New Haven area. We also mentor Gay-Straight Alliances (GSA's) in high schools and are starting a leadership circle for local youth leading or interested in organizing a GSA in their school. Our service informs our engagement in politics. We have successfully lobbied for a trans-inclusive non-discrimination ordinance for New Haven, participated in marches and direct actions for justice for LGBTQ people, and canvassed against anti-equality ballot initiatives. The Yale Black Women's Coalition (YBWC)

The Yale Black Women’s Coalition (YBWC) is a student organization that is fiercely committed to building community and creating lasting impacts on the campus. The mission of Yale Black Women's Coalition is to  provide a safe and welcoming space to unite  women in the Yale community. We currently do so through the events,  discussion, and service projects that we host.  The group is, before all else, a sisterhood.  Meetings are conducted in a close circle to encourage every woman to both share and listen; meetings involve the discussion of issues that are pertinent to the black female community.  In addition, YBWC plans social events throughout the year that strengthen bonds within the sisterhood.  Our signature events include Girls Nights Out, which allow girls to take a break from campus, our annual Black Women’s Weekend, which is three days of events in November dedicated to rejoicing in being black women, and our Gentleman's Award Dinner, which honors five male undergraduates in the Yale community. YBWCseeks to share its community with other groups on campus through its many collaborations. Contact naima.ross@yale.edu
